Pauline A. D. Leitner

Born Jan 22, 1923 in Baltimore, MD to Fred and Pauline A. Karolus Davis.

She attended Baltimore Public Schools, graduating from Eastern High School of Baltimore City. While attending Baltimore Business College, she worked for the C & P Telephone Company as a long distance operator. Upon completing school, she entered the banking business, working for banks in Maryland and Florida and retired from Suburban Bank, now part of Bank of America, in 1985.

Pauline met her husband to be, Robert T. Leitner of Florida, while he was stationed at Ft. Meade, MD. Robert returned from military duty in Europe in December 1945 and they were married Jan 20, 1946 in The First United Presbyterian Church, 31st Street, Baltimore, MD by Rev. John F. Arneal.

Pauline's interest in genealogy started in 1966, while living in Orlando, FL. A relative of her husband was doing research on the Leitner Family of South Carolina and Florida and asked Pauline to provide data on her husband's branch. That started the flame burning that went on for the remainder of her life.

In addition to researching her own family line, Pauline enjoyed collecting data to help others with their family search. She worked many hours in transcribing census records for the US GenWeb project. She also transcribed church and cemetery records for several libraries in Maryland and Pennsylvania. In April 2004, The Board of Trustees for Washington County Free Library honored the contribution that Pauline made to the library by selecting a genealogy book, The Organized Family Historian, and placed in the library in her memory.

She served as committee treasurer for the Maryland 350th Anniversary Celebration held July 22, 1984 in Hagerstown, MD

She served as the Maryland coordinator for the 265th Anniversary Celebration of the Getzendanner Family in Maryland. This was held in Frederick, MD, July 11 thru 13, 1997 and was attended by family members from many states and several other countries. The celebration included visits to many landmarks associated with the Getzendanner family, including the well preserved Schifferstadt House. Activities also included refurbishment of the Getzendanner family Cemetery, located in the West part of Frederick, and dedicating  a new monument in memory of the first family members to settle in the Frederick area.

We sincerely hope her attitude of people helping people in the interest of genealogy will carry on. Pauline was laid to rest Nov 24, 2003 in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
