2014 MGS Fellows and Awardees

2014 Maryland Genealogical Society Fellows

  • Edward P. Arthur has served as vice-president and an active board member of the Maryland Genealogical Society. Among his publications are books and articles in the MGS Journal helpful to researchers in the field of records of the Roman Catholic parishes of the Baltimore area.
  • Jane F. Burgess, CG has served as a long-time active board member of the Maryland Genealogical Society and as the co-editor and editor of the MGS Journal. Over the years, she has contributed many articles to the MGS Journal, including innovations such as genealogical crossword puzzles, and has compiled and published a number of family genealogies.
  • Isabelle Board Obert has served as vice-president and two separate terms as president, and is a long-time active board member of the Maryland Genealogical Society. She has contributed significantly to several hereditary societies and volunteered with the Maryland Historical Society library. She also has published several articles on area families in the MGS Journal, as well as a number of compilations on her personal lines.
  • Patricia O'Brien Shawker, CG has served as a long-time active board member of the Maryland Genealogical Society, including a term as treasurer. She has been a volunteer staff aide at the National Archives and has contributed significantly to several other societies, including the Prince George’s County Genealogical Society and the National Genealogical Society. She was the compiler of the volume on Maryland research for the National Genealogical Society, and has published articles in the MGS Journal.
  • Allender Sybert  has served as president, registrar, and treasurer. He has been an active MGS board member for a number of years and is the informal custodian of its institutional memory.  He also currently fulfills most of the Society’s requests for research.  In addition to acting as a book review editor of the MGS Journal, he has contributed to it a number of continuing articles on Baltimore County probate records.

  • Ronald J. Leach, Ph.D. has had principal editorial responsibilities with both the MGS Journal and the Society's Newsletter. He was also the Society’s webmaster for several years and participated on the committee to redesign the Society’s website. He has contributed a number of articles to the MGS Journal related to the technological aspects of genealogical research, as well as publishing significant material in other venues.
  • Druscilla J. Null  has served as vice-president and president, and is an active board member of the Maryland Genealogical Society.  For the last two years, she has provided outstanding service as the Society’s webmaster.
  • William W. and Martha E. Reamy served for years as the production editors and indexers of the MGS Bulletin, the precursor of today's MGS Journal. In addition, they have published source record material of interest to genealogists researching Maryland families.
